We all sometimes hesitate wearing something extra-ordinary, but I think we should learn to wear whatever we feel like wearing, regardless of everything.
I've decided to talk on this topic, since I've been recently getting a few comments on my Instagram like: "You are so brave to wear this" and "I'm jealous of your brave outfits"
When I first started getting into style & fashion, my outfits were nothing special and I did not really have a sense of style. I always tried to stay safe, with the "what's trendy" and "wear what everyone else is wearing" outfits, but I never truly enjoyed fashion in that way.
Over time, I started pulling off more "weird" yet remarkable outfits, and I found out that I enjoy shocking people through the clothes I wear (what a surprise). Of course, I am not currently living in New York, London, Milan or any other fashion capital of the world, and where my outfits would not be that much special. I live in a somewhat small town in Lithuania, where fashion is often times misunderstood, but I think that's what motivates me the most. I really love my hometown and the country I grew up in, and I actually want to push its fashion boundaries by dressing a bit "weird" by the current norms here, and hopefully with globalization and other influencers it can one day become a fashion capital too.
Most of the times, when I pick a "sick" outfit for a friend, they are hesitant to wear it, since it does not fit the current norms, and they say: "people will stare". I always reply with: "So what? They stare because you look good and different". I really want to encourage each and every one of you, reading this blog post, to at least try wearing an "extra" outfit at least once. If you won't like it, feel ashamed, and can't stand the glares, then it's probably not for you.
I really believe the world can have a more experimental experience with fashion, and it does not have to be dictated by the fashion industry. YOU CAN WEAR ANYTHING YOU WANT, REGARDLESS OF GENDER, "RULES" OR STEREOTYPES!
Some of my favorite outfits I got stared for this year:
Of course, I am not always creative enough to wear a different and interesting outfit everyday, especially during the school year, since the most of schools in Lithuania, have some sort of uniforms or rules to what you can wear. I have never understood why schools suppress our creativity and self expression, and will always be against it, since our country could use that creativity in many ways. Yes, I get that the majority of us will have a dress-code or a uniform at work, and that what you're going for, but what about creative people? People who are into fashion? People who express themselves through clothes? The world is not just made of lawyers, doctors, and politicians, who need uniforms. Schools don't want people to stand out, they want to create a gray mass, which just ruins creativity.
If you're also living in a country, where most of the fashion is very ordinary and nothing special, and if you're into the "weird" semi-avant-garde fashion scheme, or just like being different and wearing different clothes, you should wear what you feel like wearing, and influence people along the way. The world needs creative people, and fashion is one of the ways you can express your creativity.
Therefore, the more people stop caring about what others think when it comes to style and fashion, the more we can develop the fashion world!
I really hope I could inspire some of you to wear whatever you want, where every you want.☀
